What is stress?

What is stress, is a question that we must all ask ourselves today because we experience stress several times a day. It can be described as an imbalance between the perception. The term comes from the Latin stringere which means "tight". This Anglicism meant "state of distress" in the 17th century and referred to the notion of adversity.

The slightest thing can trigger a stress reaction. What most of us don't know is that stress is an organic reaction that is mainly neurobiological and hormonal but also chemical when we are confronted with something that creates tension or pressure.

It can also be called a physical reaction that prepares our bodies to be alert. These changes are triggered by the release of adrenaline (a hormone present in our body) which causes an increase in heart rate, blood pressure, blood sugar (blood sugar concentration) and disrupts intestinal transit. This is why it is necessary to keep an eye on your stress level. Stress has existed since the beginnings of mankind. It is a natural way of adapting to our environment without any positive or negative connotations.

We don't always need to call a health professional if we can sometimes help ourselves for cheap.

It is difficult to determine when your stress starts to negatively affect your life. Whether it is anxiety, sleep disorders, maladjustment or mood disorders, or even depression, the resulting effect can take different forms. Stress is experienced and combated differently depending on the person.

Today we must be very careful because stress can have repercussions on health (heart disease...) and psychological (depression...), social, family and professional consequences. There are different natural remedies against stress such as St. John's wort which is known for its antidepressant and calming properties. Or the hop which belongs to the Cannabaceae family, an anti-stress plant, without forgetting rhodiola, called "sports root" a stimulant that helps to fight against anxiety, depression and to manage fatigue generated by stress.

Massage or Infratherapy can also help to relieve stress, especially stress caused by work, which is the leading cause of sick leave worldwide. The term overwork and burn out is often used that causes an imbalance in the nervous system: it stimulates the pituitary-pituitary and adrenal nervous system. But don't forget that if stress has an impact on daily life, work and general condition, it is always important to consult a psychologist without delay.
